The new Tonale is built in Turin, Italy on a platform that will be shared with the upcoming Dodge Hornet. The Tonale will be powered exclusively by a 1.3 turbocharged 4-cylinder plug-in hybrid with an electric-only range of 30 miles on a full charge. This combination can produce up to 285 horsepower with the internal combustion and electric motor together. The internal combustion engine powers the front axle through a six-speed automatic, while an electric motor sends 121 horsepower to the rear wheels through a single-gear reduction transmission.

Seventeen-inch wheels are standard, with 18 and 19-inch wheels available. Four-wheel vented disc brakes, vented in front and solid in the back are standard. A four-wheel independent strut suspension is standard; electronically adjustable struts are available.

Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic monitoring, lane departure monitoring, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, and an SOS Call system are all standard.

Late edit: the Alfa Romeo Tonale has been delayed and will first come to market as a 2024, not a 2023.
